Tonbridge Triathlon 2015
May Bank Holiday saw the return of the immensely popular Tonbridge Triathlon.
The event, now in its twenty fourth year, is organised by Tonbridge Lions Club and involves swimming in the Olympic sized pool at Tonbridge School, a cycle discipline that covers the beautiful Kent countryside and a run within the excellent Tonbridge School sports ground, culminating on the renowned school running track.
Competing with some of the British elite Olympic triathletes was Scott Richardson (above left).
Scott (originally a member of Tonbridge Athletics Club), who finished fourth in the recent Challenge Paguera Mallorca Championship; and soon to enter the Rimini European Championship Triathlon said, “the fabulous Tonbridge Triathlon was a great kick-start to the whole triathlon season”.
Almost 500 athletes were drawn from all over the UK and Europe, competing over two distances:
Tthe Standard (800 metre swim, 50k cycle and 10k run) and Sprint (400 metre swim, 25k cycle and 5k run). The Standard distance male winner Sam Begg of 7Oaks Tri Club completed the course in 2hr.18min.57secs. The Standard distance female Catherine Linney also from 7Oaks Tri Club finished in 2hr.37min.49secs.
The winning male in the Sprint distance Mark Bruce took 1hr.05min.36secs. And the winning Sprint female Hannah Ewens completed in 1hr.21min.46secs.
